American dReam Lyrics

Celebrity Society

Mom and dad want a doctor or a lawyer
I just think that’s too passé
I just want something to make me rich and famous
something with some more cache

I don’t need to mortgage off my future
for some Ivy League degree
I just need a scheme to appeal to the masses
in this celebrity society

Brittney’s hair or poor, Anna Nicole Smiths drama
gets more headlines than Darfur
A crooked chef spends a few months in striped pajamas
Now her net worth only soars!

A President, or Governor of California
How much higher can you get
from “Pumping Iron” or acting with a chimp named Bonzo
who’d have thought to make that bet?

American Idols, get more votes than politicians
Now that’s such a telling sign
Instead of lying, get on TV and belt a tune out
and watch the voters stand in line

Acting school and Golds Gym costs much less than Harvard
It’s the only thing that pays
An MBA or PhD won’t get you that far
In a Celebrity Society! In a Celebrity Society, In a Celebrity Society

Weapons of Mass Distraction

Weapons of Mass Distraction are gonna drive me to my grave.

The art of driving is evolving driven mainly by the form
of technology arriving that distracts us from the norm,
of two hands upon the wheel, eyes pointed straight ahead
there are markers on the roadside bearing witness to the dead.

Weapons of Mass Distraction are gonna drive me to my grave.
But, I get such satisfaction from the time I’m gonna save
using gadgets and a gizmos to make sure I’m not late.
All the while oblivious to my impending fate

My mobile phone is balanced between my cheek and shoulder.
Through my fingers swirls of smoke reminds me of the smolder
of my cigarette, while glowing embers fall upon my threads.
There are markers on the roadside bearing witness to the dead.

As I hurtle down the highway catching up with my email,
two hands on the keyboard my knees steady the wheel.
An unexpected bend in the road lays up ahead.
There are markers on the roadside bearing witness to the dead.

If you drive with these distractions you’ll soon make your own bed.
It won’t be a “Posturpedic” but a hard pine box instead.
And your epitaph will read what I’ve already have said,
“There are markers on the roadside bearing witness to the dead”,
“There are markers on the roadside bearing witness to the dead”.

Doggie Style

When I grew up we called them Mutts, we got them at the pound
they weren’t the most attractive but their temperament was sound
then Rottweillers mauled the neighbors kids and Pit Bulls killed the cats
and people realized, Oh Shoot! Purebreds ain’t where it’s at.

My hats off to the marketeers who figured out a way
to name a mutt a CockerPoo and through the nose we’d pay.
And now we have designer mutts for cocktail party brags
How about a Labradoodle, to match your Kate Spade bag.

We’re going in doggie style, need a name brand to go with it
Drive a thousand miles, for a chance to take one home
They’ve got sex appeal, and they’re hypo allergenic
Going doggie style and throw the mutt a bone

Now we’ve grown a cottage industry of breeders who perfect
the art mating mongrels with the proper epithet
Directors cut DVD’s can’t be very far behind
“The Making of St. Chihuahua” would be a titillating find

And so designer mutts are flying out the door
with all the different breeds out there, who knows what’s next in store
as purebreds jam their cages, there can be little doubt
the mongrels have come home to roost, and now carry all the clout

And they’ll go in doggie style, they’ll be eating on a pillow
use a silver spoon, for their organic food
Seemed like yesterday, relegated to a shelter
Going doggie style can no longer be pooh-poohed.

Let’s liberate the dog pounds and find the mutts a home
It don’t take a rocket scientist to architect a nomenclature
So instead of mongrel try a more alluring name
like Chiweenie, Jugs or Bichpoo or a little Cockertese

and charge a thousand bucks cause free would raise suspicion
and they’ll stand in line, to pay you cash, of their own volition.
I know it’s not intuitive, but it really is the truth
the consumers status consciousness has given sales a boost!

So they can go in doggie style, we will be the neighbors envy
Shop at Bloomingdales to accessorize
And to think as kids we only had a mongrel
Going doggie style, and throw the mutt a bone
Going doggie style , How could we have known
When we go in doggie style the mutts ascend the throne

The Open Road Lament

Fire on the clouds of grey and I’m on my way
with the memory of your warmth still on my skin
I don’t know what’s wrong with me but the road is talking
telling me that where I’m going ain’t as good as where I’ve been.

Ten cities in two weeks makes them all blur together
I got fifty-two best friends to pass the time
my whiskey must be bad the Jack of Hearts is talking
Telling me a love that’s true don’t ever blur the line
lately I’ve been wrestling with this feeling
that’s bubbling up from deep within my core
nothing I do will make it less revealing
That the open road is losing it’s allure

Sipping on my coffee in an all night dive
I’m staring at a waitress with your hair
she say’s, “why don’t you come home to me”, and I just smile
and say, “thank you darling but I’m already there”
And the buses and the cars and nameless smoky bars
run in endless loops the whole night through
and they’re calling out to me like sounds from this guitar
telling me to take the road that leads me back to you, Oh.

lately I’ve been wrestling with this feeling
that’s bubbling up from deep within my core
nothing I do will make it less revealing
That the open road is losing it’s allure

Now the billboards and the moon they both smile at me
Ain't it strange I’ve never seen them there before
some times we try too hard see what really matters
when the answers are behind our own front doors

lately I’ve been wrestling with this feeling
that’s bubbling up from deep within my core
nothing I do will make it less revealing
That the open road is losing it’s allure
it will eat you up and spit you our for sure
I ain’t spending time away from you no more

A True Patriots Work is Never Done

Dear DSS, my eyes have been witness to a family mess
and I fear for the lives of these twins
as the cycle of illness plays over and over again

He lives in the Penthouse above
the sidewalk is littered with the bodies of doves
that were shot from the sky with his gun
held in the arms of his adopted son.

And I hear him scream out with glee
“If you don’t shoot them first they’ll shoot me”
so remember this lesson my son
A true patriots work is never done.

For his daughter, I fear that he pimps
from the largest of johns to the smallest of shrimps.
and their limousines line up the street
growing at the same rate as the pile of sheets.

And i hear him scream out with glee
“If you don’t screw them first they’ll screw me”
so remember my daughter and son
a true patriots work is never done.

Well, I could go on for an hour or more, about the craziness that I have seen.
the depravity and the indifference, is impossible to believe.
Yet you allowed this adoption, while loving families must wait.
and delivered these two to a madman who I know will determine their fate

He prohibits them calling him dad
instead he insists they call him Uncle Sam.
And their names once were Fannie and Fred.
But he’s changed them now to Liberty instead.

And why does this happen today, that we all look the other way
when a lunatic rants in our face, and we don’t even reach for the mace
Because we’ve all become desensitized, from the years of the heartaches and lies
but as sure as the new day will come
A true patriots work is never done.
A true patriots work is never done.

American dReam

Palms pressed against my eyes, another month goes by in paradise.
The tightrope walker trips, the crowd gasps while tightening grips around their thighs.
It all seemed to make good sense to own a house and not pay rent to someone else.
When two incomes turned to one, the pillars of support around me fell.

The cars were ours on lease, a “Beamer” and an SUV
A sheriff and a tow truck, are symbols of the luck i can’t escape
And the bank who owns it all, figures they’d be better off if they foreclosed
“nothing personal” they said, then threw me out into the street with just my clothes.

American dream, American dream,
This journey through paradise is not what it seems
American dream, American dream,
Just drop the “D” and the truth remains to be seen.

My children just see me as a game of hide and seek I never lose.
two jobs and fourteen hour days, are worn into the my face like a tattoo.
and I watch them in their slumbers, and pray to god to give me strength to carry on.
And I think about their mother, and how her radiance of love glowed like the dawn.

She was ripped from me, on a cold December day, we knew would come.
Refused the only treatment that could help to stop the growth and not succumb.
A life of premiums we paid, made no difference to execs so cold and numb.
“Nothing personal” they said, as the line went dead, and we sat stunned.

American dream, American dream,
this journey through paradise is not what it seems.
American dream....American dream,
Just drop the “D” and the truth remains to be seen.

Palms pressed against my eyes, another month goes by in paradise
the tightrope walker trips, the crowd gasps while tightening grips around their thighs.

The Wall of Shame

Don’t cry Maria, I know the year’s been tough,
working for pesos doesn’t pay enough
to feed a family the size of ours
and keep a roof above our heads instead of the stars.
Five dollars weekly make it hard to save,
but when I have enough I’ll pay our way
with the contrabandistas and stow away
and get us past, the “wall of shame”.

Pared de la verquenza, Pared de la verquenza, Pared de la verquenza, The wall of shame

And the families are crammed between boxes and tin,
anxiously waiting their chance to sneak in
and hoping that dream of a statuean maid
is worth all the risk and the price that they paid.

North of the border our checkbooks are stressed,
lawn’s overgrown and house is a mess.
The immigrant labor we used but kept hid
can’t cross the border, the new wall forbids.
We once had two incomes so now we lament
next month’s expenses are already spent.
A smuggling scheme will net a quick grand,
just meet in Jacumba at midnight as planned.

And the wind driven sand and the tumbleweeds dance
in and out of the headlights, inducing a trance
on a white knuckled driver whose deep furrowed brow
reveal that’s he’s driven to far.....to turn back now.

A locked trailer bakes, in the desert heat,
abandoned by smugglers who, already bagged their fee.
A lone sentry corpse sprawls in front of the rig
partially covered by sand, Santa Anna blew in.

The border police load the bodies in bags,
the stench of dead flesh and flapping of tags
signals an end, to the dreams and the lives
of a dozen good men and their children and wives.

Pared de la verquenza, pared de la verquenza, pared del la verquenza, The wall of shame.

One Floor Taller

Build them one floor taller than before

We're a nation whose great history has been forged with sacrifice
for the things that we hold dear we will fight.
From the start at Battle road to the to the Yorktown victory
unwavered in our fight till we were free.

We differed over slavery and nearly fell apart,
But at Sumter alas our fates were sealed.
And when the words “Four Score and Seven” fell on battle weary ears
It was evident righteousness would prevail.

So, build them one floor taller than before,
In the memory of the hero's that have come and died in war.
May we not forget the honor and the valor that they bore.
Build them one floor taller than before.

We came to help our allies when despots threatened peace
losing countless of our men on foreign shores.
And when the smoke had cleared, Japan & Europe lay in waste
but we built them back the way they were before.

And, now we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place
And many don’t know what we’ve been fighting for
Freedom only grows at it’s own pace
and you can’t build a new world order, if they don’t open up it’s door

So someone please explain to me why now we hesitate
To rebuild those towers fallen on that fateful summer day
Shanksvilles crater has grown over and the Pentagons restored
Build them one floor taller than before.

So build them one floor taller than before,
In the memory of the hero's that ran up and down her floors.
May we not forget the honor and the valor that they bore.
Build them one floor taller than before

Face Your Fears

I walked alone, on that trail overgrown, to the bus stop
every morning and afternoon, I relived Lewis and Clark
But I never would walk there at night, with those creatures that lurk out of sight
with their glowing green eyes, and their growls and their cries
fueled my fears while my courage took flight.

You told me once, that within everyone, lives a hero.
When the time is just right, your moment to shine, will arrive.
So we practice the days and the years, in our limitless actions and prayers
to be the best that we can, as a woman or man
when our calling finally appears to.....

Face your fears, in the night, and believe it will work out all right.
Face your fears, and you’ll find, that place, where courage and fear intertwine.

Time sprouted wings that summer you wore your beret.
Waving at the end of the runway, you faded away.
Now the bombs they explode in my dreams, and your voice it calls out to me
saying son you be brave, there is nothing is as grave
as our fears make us think it to be, so.....

Face your fears, in the night, and believe it will work out all right.
Face your fears, and you’ll find, that place, where courage and fear intertwine.

But know that I’m also afraid, of the unknowns that play with my fate.
So I count my blessings each day, I make it back from harms way.
But the courage that powers my stride, is the hope I’ll be soon by your side.
So look up at the new rising moon, and know I’ll be looking there to,
pull me through......pull me through......pull me through

When I got your call I stood 20 feet tall you were home bound.
The bus would be dropping you off at a quarter past nine.
So I walked through the night to that stop, and when you saw me your duffle bag dropped
in our tearful embrace your hands held my face, as we both said those words that you taught.

Face your fears, in the night, and believe it will work out all right
Face your fears, and you’ll find, that place where courage and fear intertwine
believe in yourself and you’ll find, your moment to shine will arrive

I Wait For You

When grey days and rain fall down on you
I feel your pain and there’s nothing I can do
I’m looking down at the clouds that block my view
I wait for you

I know, those memories, still salt your wounds
let go of the past, and let that smile shine through
and melt away, the fog, that surrounds you
I wait for you

I wait while winters winds are whipping
drifting snow above your head
I wait while spring showers are soaking you
for a chance to see you once again

When sunrise or starlight, guide your gaze
do you sense, my eyes upon your face
I’ll be with you, throughout all your days
I wait for you

I wait while autumn’s gales are gusting
colored branches till they’re bare
I wait while summers booms burst brilliant
upon my fleeting stare

And oh, what joy it brings when then I see you
It’s like, I’ve never missed a day
Your life, lifts my soul like air balloons
And then the clouds get my the way

When grey days and rain fall down on you
I feel your pain there’s nothing I can do
I’m looking down at the clouds that block my view
I wait for you

Potters Clay

My favorite time of day is when I’m lying here with you.
All of my problems fade away.
The softness of skin and warmth of your touch,
melts us together like potters clay

And on the wheel we’ll spin together
blending our clay into an urn
whose test of time depends on whether
How hot a fire our love can burn

But the demons come and shake my sleep
and they tear and claw and curse at me
and I fight them off one by one
but I’m tiring and they keep coming on
wake up and then I see
we’ve come apart in my frenzy
so I slide back into my place
and melt me back into potters clay

Lying here watching as the moonlight holds your face
hearing your breathing soothes my soul
soon I have fallen into a deep and dreamless place
Safe and serene and dark as coal

But the demons come and shake my sleep
they tear and claw and curse at me
and I fight them off one by one
but I’m tiring and they keep coming on
I wake up and then I see
we’ve come apart in my frenzy
so I slide back into my place
and melt me back into potters clay

Rivers run into the ocean
Balloons will rise into the air
The potter wheel spins with devotion
spinning beauty out of clay
Potters clay

My favorite time of day is when i’m lying here with you
all of my problems fade away
Softness of skin and warmth of your touch
melts us together like potters clay
Like Potter Clay, Like Potters Clay
Like Potters Clay, Like Potters Clay
Like Potters Clay

Same Sex Marriage

Some people like it rough, while others hug and kiss,
If varieties the spice of life, my sex life’s gone amiss.
So, call me staid and boring, but I’m as happy as a clam
that you’re my same sex partner and I’m your same sex man

What’s all the fuss about Same Sex Marriage,
you know I hear about it every day.
I don’t need no high court ruling,
I don’t care what they have to say.
I’m perfectly adjusted and I’m not even gay.
I’m in a Same Sex Marriage, I have the same sex everyday.

We don’t twist up like a pretzel, like some yogi would enjoy
We both are too embarrassed to go shopping for some toys.
My favorite position, is when you’re wrapped up in my arms,
my favorite toy’s your raven hair that sparkles like a charm.

Chorus

Instrumental verse

Chorus

So, Boston and San Francisco, you get a big thank you from me
I’ve always been self conscious about my bedroom originality
I’ve come out of the closet and printed Tee shirts for our cause
I won’t back down till Same Sex Marriage is burned into our laws

What’s all the fuss about Same Sex Marriage,
you know I hear about it every day.
I don’t need no high court ruling,
I don’t care what they have to say.
I’m perfectly adjusted and I’m not even gay.
I’m in a Same Sex Marriage, I have the same sex everyday.
I’m in a Same Sex Marriage, I have the same sex everyday.

The Polar Bear Giraffe

One balmy winter day an ice flow broke away,
and a polar bear was stranded on an island.
An earthquake caused a tidal wave,
he rode it thousands of miles away
to a land of giraffes and lions.

When he opened up his eyes, he was mightily surprised
to see a yellow beast towering above him.
And she brought him boughs with leaves, to help his hunger ease
and friendship was begun right there and then.

When polar bears meet Giraffes, well it’s not a sight to pass
but you’d be wise to grab your knees, and pull your head up to your ass,
cause when the top becomes the bottom, and the truth becomes a lie,
just pull your head on up there, and kiss your ass goodbye.

And the predator the lion, was frightened at the sight,
of a beast with fangs a claws and a coat of pearly white,
So he left them to their peace, to eat their leafy feast
then watch the burning sun fall into the shining sea

But you can not eat a meal and watch the sun to set
without romantic feelings for your partner to beget.
And with feelings now begat, a son was soon begot
and The polar bear Giraffe was the product of this lot.

When polar bears meet Giraffes, well it’s not a sight to pass
but, you’d be wise to grab your knees, and pull your head up to your ass,
cause when the top becomes the bottom, and the truth becomes a lie,
just pull your head on up there, and kiss your ass goodbye.

He stood at twenty feet, with fangs and claws to greet
any animal or vegetable of green. And with no predators to fear,
their numbers grew each year, till humans were their only source of protein.

When polar bears meet Giraffes, take heed me lad and lass
but you’d be wise to grab your knees, and pull your head up to your ass,
cause when the top becomes the bottom, and the truth becomes a lie,
just pull your head on up there, and kiss your ass goodbye

Some say the world will end in fire, others say in ice
if it rids the worlds of humankind either will suffice.
Cause, when you rape the maid of Eden you should not be too surprised
when she knocks upon your door and puts a gun between your eyes.

When polar bears mate Giraffes, take heed me lad and lass
but you’d be smart to grab your knees, and pull your head up to your ass,
cause when the top becomes the bottom, and the truth becomes a lie,
just pull your head on up there, and kiss your ass goodbye.
Just pull your head on up there, and kiss your ass goodbye.

I Googled You

That email, made me think of you again
find your classmates and your long forgotten friends
It’s strange, I never even thought of it before
just type a name into a search bar
and see what lies in store

And as the bits were flying
I kept denying
that you’d ever even think of me again
I handled things badly
and looking back
the way treated you is hard to comprehend

Oh, it’s true
what absence to a lonely heart can do
I thought that we were through
Until I Googled You

The image that was filling up my screen
seemed harder than my faded memory
A picture isn’t always worth a thousand words
but a smile’s always a window into what we have endured

And as the bits were flying
I kept denying
that you’d ever even think of me again
I handled things badly
and looking back
the way I treated you is hard to comprehend

Oh, it’s true
what absence to a lonely heart can do
I thought that we were through
Until I Googled You

But your address is listed, yet I feel so conflicted
about the way that my broken life may seem.
Maybe you’re taken, and i’ve just been mistaken
about the chances for a love to be redeemed,
as the monitors glow washes over me.

Its so bizarre the way our lives unfold
when do the lines reveal we’re getting old
I’ve heard that ignorance is bliss, I thought so to
Until I Googled you, Until I Googled you

The World I’ve Been Waiting For

Made up to the mountain top, after all of these trys.
One sides a ten thousand foot drop
but I’ve never been more inspired
standing looking over the side

Lord knows it’s a long way down, it was a long hard climb
gonna scale these peaks in a single bound
or I might just die trying. God, I wish I could fly
out into that azure sky, through the eagles eye
everything just looks so right, above it all so high.
Don’t take me to the floor, just let me stay up here
and view the world, the world I’ve been waiting for.

Damn the air is so thin up here, makes me gasp and heave.
No donkey’s or elephants, to keep me company, I’m finally be free.
To fly into that azure sky, through the eagles eye
everything just looks so right, above it all so high
don’t take me to the floor, just let me stay up here
and view the world, the world I’ve been waiting for

But i’m not going back the way I came
No, though the boulders and the snow fields
that freeze and cut and maim
No I’m not going back the way I came
Living fat and dumb and happy
just would never be the same

Some say what you sow you reap, and I agree
Standing up here on this mountain top, staring down ten thousand feet
And, I am flying out into that azure sky, through my own eyes
everything just looks so right, above it all so high.
Don’t take me to the floor, just let me stay up here
and view the world, the world I’ve been waiting for,
view the world, the world I’ve been waiting for.
